Baby showers are one of the most exciting stop points in a pregnant woman's 9 months journey. And if you are the baby shower planner for a special friend or family member, you can make it really special for her with a cool new theme idea: ‘Green' Baby Shower.

Forget the ‘blue for boy' or ‘pink for girl' baby shower. How about the color green to mark this very special event? Yes, you can plan a ‘green' and eco-friendly baby shower and surprise everyone with this thoughtful and unique theme. So here are the tips to help you through the entire party planning and execution process.

Sending Out the Invitations:

Paper or printed invitations are completely out. Design electronic invitations and let your creativity flow. Email the invite to everyone and mention the venue, time and of course the theme of the baby shower. In the invite you can mention that your guests need to bring in ‘green gifts' or they could pick up anything and wrap it up in recycled wrapping paper.

Décor for a ‘Green' Shower:

You can't decorate using ribbons or balloons in this case. Instead use potted plants to liven up the room. You can also use designer decorative plants like bonsai to give a special look and feel to the place. Use recycled decorative material or you can take the easy way out and use potted flowers everywhere, and specially as centerpieces of the tables.

Do not use disposable cups or plates. Instead, raid your kitchen or would be mom's kitchen or even ask the caterer to supply ceramic dishes for the party. In fact this would be a great time to bring out all that fine wedding china and serve people food in that. Don't worry guests are usually as careful with china as you are. Nothing is likely to get smashed or broken.

Activity Ideas for a Green Baby Shower:

Team Activity- Divide the guests in to two teams and give them the task to create something. It can be a cake made from diapers pinned together where they have to decorate the cake using baby stuff like toys, teething rings, baby bottles etc. The winning team would obviously be picked by the guest of honor or the mom to be and they will be the team whose creation she likes the best.

Individual Activity- For a smaller group of people attending the shower, you can engage them in an exciting painting activity. Get all the equipment you need for a fabric painting competition and get your guests started on it. You can give them plain white baby t-shirts or even one piece suit and tell them to bring out their hidden design talents and decorate the t-shirt using fabric paint, buttons or strings or ribbons.

Group Quiz: You can hint at the possibility of a small quiz in the invite itself. And ask them candid questions from names of fishes near extinction to what do they know about recycling at home. Keep this short and try to include funny questions. Another idea of a quiz is a photo quiz, where you can ask all the guests to bring their baby pictures and everyone will make a guess at who the baby in the picture is.

Collect the baby gifts right at the end of the shower and as a wrapping up move, plant a tree or pot a plant in the name of the baby to be born. We hope these ideas help you in throwing a great ‘green' shower.
