You will find that women go through a lot of changes when they are pregnant. They will also experience a lot of unwanted side effects. One of these side effects is suffering from a swollen face during pregnancy. The reason that this happens, is often because the body is producing a larger supply of body fluids as well as blood (often as much as 50% more fluids during pregnancy). The body does this so that it can soften and prepare the body's joints for the birth of the baby, as well as support the baby while it is developing.

There is a lot of liquid that surrounds the baby in womb. This extra liquid can affect the feet, ankles, hands, fingers, and face of the mother. Many women do not mind the slight bloat of their hands and feet but when they have a swollen face during pregnancy, they feel less than the glowing person that they're supposed to be, and often feel embarrassed to go out and enjoy their pregnancy.

However, there are some simple ways that you can reduce the swelling of your face in order to get your pregnancy glow back. You should aim to cut down the salt intake that you eat. Eating a lot of salt will often increase your body's water retention, exacerbating the puffiness. You should also avoid eating junk food, since junk food is high in salt and saturated fats and very low in the fiber and vitamins that are needed when pregnant.

These are really just basic healthy-eating guidelines that most pregnant women follow anyway…but always discuss things with your doctor to make sure that you are doing the right thing for your specific situation.

You can also reduce your swollen face during pregnancy by drinking lots of water getting a lot of rest. Staying off of your legs and feet for a specific amount of time each day will help to reduce the swelling in all parts of the body.

Other ways of reducing your swollen face during pregnancy is to avoid caffeine, eat foods that are rich in potassium, and stay cool if you are pregnant during the summer months. You should also get adequate exercise in order to keep the blood and your system moving.

If your swollen face is troublesome, you can add cold compresses to the swollen area when you take your rest or when you go to bed. Taking these steps to reduce your swelling when you are pregnant, will allow you to have a much happier pregnancy and birth.
