With the recent downturn of the economy, it's no surprise that people are looking for ways to add a touch of luxury to their space. Whether it's a set of 1000 thread count sheets or a luxury kitchen appliance, people everywhere are bringing luxury back into their lives, if only in little ways. Light fixtures are no exception!

Chandeliers

Nothing is as grand or ornate of a light fixture as the chandelier. Though it's true that these ceiling fixtures also come in clean, modern looks with simple lines and subtle details, the majority of people want their chandelier to have some gumption, some weight, at least visually and aesthetically.

For 2012, it's not enough for your chandelier to be ornate with lots of crystals or other decorative accents. In fact, in 2012, we're seeing a lot more color in our chandeliers. Colored crystals, colored finishes, the works! Don't be afraid to invest in a vibrant, beautiful light fixture that compliments your space. Chandeliers are meant to be a focal point, so take advantage of that.

Of course, if the colored options are a bit too overwhelming or just not your style, don't fret. You can't go wrong with a classic chandelier with a black finish and glitzy clear crystal accents.

Chandelettes

Chandelettes are smaller versions of the chandelier and these are great for every room in the home. You can use the chandelette in the bedroom, bathroom, or even in a walk-in closet. These light fixtures are between 9 and 12 inches in diameter, where a traditional chandelier is at least 12 inches in diameter, if not larger.

Wall Sconces

In 2012, you can also see a lot of wall sconces popping back into the design world. These once seemingly dated light fixtures come in a number of different styles, patterns and looks. However, if you're looking to stay on trend, then consider looking for wall sconces that mimic the look of chandeliers. Crystals are a huge trend right now and if you can use them in various spaces throughout your home, you absolutely should: wall sconces, chandeliers, even table or floor lamps.

You can also opt for colorful wall sconces, with colored crystals or colored finishes, as these will also be trendy in 2012.

Other Ornate Light Fixtures for 2012

In general, any light fixture that features beautiful ornamentation, whether it's crystals, a filigree pattern or something else entirely, will be perfect for 2012. Pendant lights in particular will continue to be used in kitchens, but don't be surprised to see more ornate, decorative versions popping up in living rooms, bedrooms or home offices: essentially replacing table lamps and more importantly, saving valuable floor space.
