Ever since the Google keyword suggestion tool started some years ago, funny and somewhat inappropriate suggestions can randomly pop up during innocent searches.
One of the internet's favourite Google keyword suggestions is “Why is there a dead Pakistani on my Couch?” This bizarre question actually has humble beginnings in the in a short scene in the American television series “Lost,” created by Jeffrey Lieber, J. J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof.
The TV series is actually about a plane crash that leaves passengers stranded on a tropical island, where they have to battle the elements and themselves for survival. The scene in discussion is only a 5 second section from one of its many episodes.
As silly as it may seem, ridiculous searches such as this have a relatively high global monthly search volume. The popularity of these mindless suggestions is phenomenal, with the Pakistani couch phrase receiving approximately fifty thousand searches, every single month. The amazing thing is that Google makes no attempt to rectify these stupid errors, which serve no real research value for the majority of internet users.
Amusing suggestions such as this sweep the internet and continue to make internet users laugh. Plenty of other suggestions include “Why can't I own a Canadian” and “Are donkeys waterproof?” Where these suggestions come from and who actually initially searches for them is a mystery – but the internet just wouldn't be the same without them.
