Buckwheat pillows occasionally receive brief competition from pillows using other types of fillings. Recently, one of these, while not new, is finding new life by being touted on TV.

I briefly considered sending for one of these just so I could say I had tried one, and found it wanting. However, I quickly decided against that idea. With all the analysis of the emissions produced by the various plastics, I just decided my health was too important to me to subject mine to the risks involved in sleeping on a plastic filled pillow.

Obviously, then, my first negative assessment toward the plastic bead pillow filling, would be the health hazard inherent in the plastic beads, versus the organic hypoallergenic buckwheat hulls.

Another consideration would be the advantage of the buckwheat hulls cooling tendencies in the hot summer months, and the warming capacity in the winter. I'm unaware of any such capabilities of plastic bead fillings

Since I've not seen advertising to the contrary, I must assume that no provisions are being supplied with these plastic bead filled pillows to adjust the volume of filling to provide individual comfort adjustment, which is possibly the most valuable and unique of all the advantages inherent in quality buckwheat hull pillows.

And finally, the one most important and unique of all the buckwheat hulls' advantages as a pillow filing, the minute ridges on them which cause them to attach slightly to each other. This phenomenon is what gives buckwheat hulls their malleability factor. This is what has made them the perfect pillow filling for 2 to 3 thousand years. That is how long they have been the pillow filling of choice in the Orient. Now, awareness of their superiority for this purpose is growing in the western world. Better late than never.

This malleability is what allows buckwheat hull pillows to do two things. First, it allows the pillows to conform to the exact shape of your head and neck. Secondly, it allows this conformed shape to have a certain measure of cohesion, which accounts for the gentle support they provide to all parts of the body which are in contact with the pillow.

I mention, and perhaps should stress, the gentleness of this support, because it is strong enough to relieve muscle stresses and tensions, which provide all sorts of beneficial advantages in regard to neck, back, and jaw pains, to say nothing of headaches, sleeping difficulties, etc., yet it is flexible enough to effortlessly shift its conformation when you change your sleeping position. So far, modern science has not been able to replicate this unique degree of malleability inherent in these buckwheat hulls.

I should mention once again, that the adjustability of the volume of hulls in quality buckwheat hull pillows, allows this degree of malleability to be individually adjusted to each person's unique preferences and requirements. This advantage is paramount.

No plastic bead pillow filling can hope to compete with the buckwheat hull pillow filling.
